Wow! Half of the school year is over, and summer will be here before we know it. The 40th Annual Business, Marketing, and Information Technology Conference in November was a huge success. We had 320 registrants attending numerous sessions and workshops. As in years past, I left the conference with so much new information I felt a bit overwhelmed. I enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones. We were quite blessed in the amount of sponsorships we received this year given the economy.  We had 27 exhibitors participate as well.

Our awards dinner included Dr. Dennis Wible, the keynote speaker, and all his humor. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.  After his presentation, four women were honored at the dinner:  Dr. Mary Ellen Adams received the “Friend to Business Education” award, Mrs. Tina Waechter received the “Emerging Professional” award; Ms. Pamela Raines earned the “Middle School Teacher of the Year” award, and Mrs. Jennifer Kern was the “Secondary School Teacher of the Year” recipient.

The IBEA scholarship raffle raised around $750 that will be used to fund business education scholarships. Be watching this website for the scholarship form to nominate your students for a scholarship.

By the way, IBEA membership has increased. Thank you for keeping your dues paid or joining for the first time. There is strength in numbers. Remember to join the Facebook, Twitter, and/or Google groups so that you may keep abreast of information, issues, etc. in our state.

Thanks for all you do for business and marketing education!!

Please use this to in discussion with your administration. It is important that they know the preparation that business teachers go through to teach this subject matter, and the importance of offering such subjects. If you have any questions, please contact any officer. Many thanks goes out to our Personal Finance Position Paper committee and our Ad Hoc committee on all of their hard work. Kudos!
